Bates Wins Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational 3,000

Emma Bates took her show on the road, and captured the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational title in the 3,000 meters with a school record time of 9:11.98.

Bates' time was good for 19th in the country this year, and broke her own school record of 9:13.63 set last year.

Boise State Comes From Behind to Shock #21 Clemson

After losing the doubles point, Boise State won four of the six singles matches to knock off #21 Clemson at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.

Thomas Tenreiro, Garrett Patton, Brendan McClain and Toby Mitchell were all victorious in their singles matches to carry the Broncos to the win.

Boise State will take on #37 VCU in the Championship tomorrow.

Bronco Tennis Start Time Delayed

They are running late in the Blue Gray Tennis Classic in Alabama.  Boise State and #21 Clemson were set to meet at 12:30 Mountain Time.  The teams on the court right now are running over their scheduled time.  I expect Boise State's match to now begin about 1:45 or so.

Ciera Cortney and Erin Kohlbeck Qualify for Platform Finals

Unfortunately, #1 seed Jordan Marthens will be in consolation, but the other Bronco contenders will be in the mix in the Platform Final tonight in San Antonio.  Boise State will lose about 10 points by not having three in the Final.

Boise State Poised To Take Mountain West Swimming & Diving Crown

From my calculations of today's qualifiers, Boise State has the women in place to bring home the Mountain West title.  The Broncos held a narrow 18.5 point lead heading into the final day of competition in San Antonio.  And, from the list of qualifiers in four of tonight's seven finals, Boise State now has the upper hand in the race for the championship.

Going by not the seeded times but the qualifying times in those four preliminaries today, Boise State would accumulate 133 points to 126 for San Diego State.  The final event, the 400 freestyle relay, does not have preliminary competition.  The Aztecs are expected to win that, but Boise State should fight for second or third.  Even if the Broncos were third, SD State will not wrest today's lead from Boise State, and remember that they came in down 18.5.

The other two finals are women's platform diving, in which Boise State has the #1 and #3 seeds, and the 1650 freestyle, the preliminary for which will take place this afternoon.  San Diego State has no divers in the top eight on the platform.  Their strength is the freestyle events, which will about balance the diving results out. 

This all means that today should be about a wash, leaving Boise State to win by about 15 points--barring disaster.  We will keep you posted, but right now, the Bronco women appear to be headed for a title.
