BREAKING: Boise State Has Won the Mountain West Swiming & Diving Championship!
The Broncos bring the first Mountain West title of any sport back to Boise.
They were 76-point underdogs but we all knew they were Champions. When you get the Broncos on an even playing field, or even altitude, we know how they're going to compete--like winners.
Boise State was one point down with the 400-yard freestyle relay to go. Not only did they beat San Diego State, which they had to do, but they won the race and did it in a Mountain West record time of 317.55. SD State gave it their all--they were projected to finish first in the race but finished second, putting even more pressure on Boise State to win.
The Broncos won with 747 points to 742 for San Diego State.
Congrats to Coach Kristin Hill and her amazing Boise State swimming and diving team....

San Diego State 708, Boise State 707
It all comes down to the relay. Whoever wins the relay between Boise State and San Diego State will win the Mountain West.
Final Platform Diving
SD State dominated bigtime. Burnett not winning hurt Boise State's chances as SD State got 67 points to 41 for Boise State in this event, pending the results of the "B" final. The Broncos could get 2-3 points there.
SD State now leads by four, which means Boise State must win the relay to take the championship or beat SD State to tie.

Anna Steiner Leads Platform Diving Now
Amanda Burnett has lost her lead in Platform Diving at the MWC Championships. She needs to do well to keep Boise State in the hunt for the team title. SD State is threatening to take the top four positions.
Amanda Burnett Leads Platform Diving After 2 Dives
Amanda with a 109.50 in two dives. Four SD State divers are right behind her.
Bronco Divers Off to Good Start
Tana Loan and Ciera Cortney are off to a good start in the women's platform diving competition. There are five dives. In the first, Cortney and Loan are #2 & 3 and ahead of one of the San Diego State divers. San Diego State is expected to score 22 more points than Boise State, which would tie the team standings. Anything better than that is extra for the Broncos. Then, as in the track relay, Boise State would have to beat San Diego State to win the championship.
Heaney Gets 3rd in 200 Butterfly
Boise State took another event that was expected to be close and turned it into a dominating performance. Can't say enough about Coach Kristin Hill. Win or lose, she has done what she needed to do and more to win a conference title. Rachel Heaney qualified for the NCAA's with her swim in taking third.
Boise State outscored SD State 31-17 in this event and now has a 22-point lead with two events left. They'll need it.
San Diego State is expected to win Platform Diving by 22 points, meaning that indeed, the Mountain West title will come down to the defending conference champions and the upstart Broncos battling in the 400 freestyle relay for the trophy.

Harper & Miller Get 5-6 in 200 Breaststroke
Freshman Heather Harper and sophomore Chelsea Miller are going to make Boise State Coach Kristin Hill glad she has them around for a few years. The underclassmen took an event that was supposed to be won by San Diego State with 27 points and instead turned it blue and orange with Boise State getting 27 points to 24 for San Diego State. This is a 10-point turnaround for the Bronco team.
The Boise State lead is now 8 at 633 points to 625 for San Diego State. SD State still has their dominant event of Platform Diving, in which they are expected to win by 20 points, remaining.
If Boise State can stay within 20 in dividng, win the relay and win the 200 butterfly (which is next), the Broncos can get team gold. This could be as close as the MWC Men's track title, in which Boise State led by 1.5 points going into the final event and lost by 2.5 points to Air Force.

Boise State Will Close the Lead in the 100 Freestyle
The Bronco women are poised to cut into a large portion of the San Diego State lead at the Mountain West Swimming & Diving Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
At this point the Aztecs lead 582-563. If Boise State is fortunate to do well in the 100 freestyle, the Broncos should lead after this event. San Diego State is expected to dominate Platform Diving, which will even things out, leaving the 200 breaststroke, the 200 butterfly and the 400 freestyle relay to decide the team title.
Boise State needs about a 21-point lead after this next event to go to the wire with San Diego State.

Johansen Continues Great Mountain West Swimming
Boise State has a new star, freshman Sydney Johansen. Johansen already has one title under her cap and now came out of the 13th seed to take third in the 200 backstroke. San Diego State was projected to score 29 in this event to 19 for Boise State. Instead, it was 34 to 26 in the Broncos' favor. This is an 18-point turnaround, something we expected this morning from preliminary swims and exactly what the Boise State team needed to get back in the race for the title.
San Diego State now leads 582 to 563. Boise State will need to stop the onslaught in the Platform Diving to win, but if they can stay within 10 or so in that event, the Broncos have a shot.
At this point, SD State is still favored by 25.

Expect San Diego State to Open Up a Big Lead in MWC Swimming
Boise State heads into the final action at the 2012 Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in first place with 506 points.
However, as we've been alerting you, San Diego State is still favored at this point unless Coach Kristin Hill can pull some magic out of her Bronco hat. The 1,650-yard freestyle is going on right now, and San Diego State is expected to score 59 points in the event. The fact that one of their strongest events is scheduled for tonight is the main reason the Aztecs are projected to win. No matter what, San Diego State will grab a big lead after this opening event tonight in Oklahoma City, the first of seven finals. If Boise State can stay within 25 or so, they have a chance.
