Potter Introduced As New Boise State Golf Coach

Boise State golf has languished really ever since Mike Young left the program.  Today, Bronco Athletic Director Mark Coyle took a step to try to right the ship with the hiring of Dan Potter.

Potter has two seasons of experience with the University of Washington, in which he helped coach two golfers to #1 in the World--Chris Williams and Cheng-Tsung Pan.  Last year, Williams won the Ben Hogan Award, the most prestigious award in collegiate golf.  Pan competed in the U.S. Open and has qualified for The Open Championship this summer.

Potter helped Washington finish in the Top 16 both years, as the Huskies finished the 2012-13 season ranked #6 in the country and #11 last year.

"It's a huge honor to have been selected by Mark Coyle, John Cunningham and the selection committee as the head men's golf coach at Boise State," Potter said. "There are a lot of quality people who are and have been associated with this program, and I'm humbled to inherit the platform they've established.

"Having grown up in Idaho and playing competitively throughout the northwest, I've always felt that Boise State had the ingredients to offer an amazing college golf experience. I'm excited to be a part of that now."

In Potter's two seasons with Washington, seven Huskies earned All-Pac-12 recognition, three were named All-America and one was named Academic All-American.

Originally from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Potter played collegiate golf for Washington from 2000-04, earning a bachelor's degree in political science.

Matt Thurmond, Washington's current men's golf head coach, offered the following regarding Potter:

"This is a really exciting day for Dan and Boise State. We've been fortunate to have Dan in our program for several years as a player and coach, and we'll really miss him. He is a great teammate and leader, and I loved working with him every day. He brings with him to Boise a great knowledge of golf and a unique feel for people, and I think the student-athletes and fans at Boise State will love Dan as much as we do. He will do great things to build the program there."
Potter will begin his tenure with Boise State Wednesday, July 9.
