Steeplechase Notes

You not only get Boise State information first on this website, you also get background information you don't get anywhere else.

Pippa Woolven of Florida State, the #6-ranked woman in the country, did not qualify.  Neither did #7 Cornelia Griesche nor #9 Alex Leptich.  That's three of the Top 10 in this event, giving #8 Howard a great shot at All-America status (Top 8).

Howard finished fourth tonight in both heats, as the first heat had the five fastest times.  In addition to a career best that we told you about, Howard's time is a new school record and the fifth-fastest steeplechase in Mountain West Conference history.

Howard Qualifies for Steeplechase Final

Boise State's Marisa Howard finished fourth in her heat of the steeplechase tonight at the NCAA Track & Field National Championships in Eugene with a great time of 9:58.45, Howard's fastest of her career.  That puts Howard squarely in the field for the steeplechase national championship, to be run Friday at 6:45 our time.

Once again, Blue Through and Through is first with this information, ahead of every radio station and television station in Idaho, ahead of The Idaho Statesman, and ahead of all the smaller websites up and down the information superhighway.

Too bad your friends get this news after you do!

The Women's Steeplechase Field

Shalayla Kipp of Colorado, Rachel Sorna of Cornell and Rachel Johnson of Baylor are Howard's toughest competitors in Heat One.  Kipp is #1 in the country, Sorna is ranked second in the nation, while Johnson is #4.  Howard comes in # in the country.

Pippa Wolven of Florida State is ranked #6, but also watch out for hometown favorite Megan Patrignelli of Oregon, the #12-ranked steeplechaser.

Marisa Howard to Run in 20 Minutes

Boise State's Marisa Howard is certainly one of the favorites in the steeplechase, and barring a disaster, she should make it past tonight's semifinals.  That race starts at 7:45 Mountain Time in Eugene at the NCAA National Track & Field Championships.

Bozarth Finishes 22nd in Hammer

Hayli Bozarth, ranked ninth in the nation in the hammer, had hopes of becoming an All-American with an eighth place finish, but it wasn't to be today in Eugene.  Her best of 212-6, in fact, would have gotten her third place today, but Bozarth threw 183-2 today for 22nd.
