Since last year didn't go as expected, the Boise State women's basketball team opened their 2011-12 season with an 82-45 exhibition win over Western Oregon this afternoon in Taco Bell Arena.
Nicole Brady led five Broncos in double figures as Boise State opened up a 12-0 lead and never looked back. Brady hit three-of-four from three-point land to head into the locker room with a team-high 11 points. Kati Isham had 13, Keiahnna Engel added 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals and Diana Lee and Amber Vandiver each contributed 10 points. Kinzi Poteet had nine rebounds, eight points and three blocks. Boise State forced 12 Western Oregon turnovers in the first half.
Boise State shot 50 percent (2-4) from the floor and now will turn their attention to Southern Oregon, which comes in next Friday, November 11. That contest at 5:30 will precede the men's contest.
"I was really happy with the way we played this afternoon," said head coach Gordy Presnell. "We opened fast and shot the ball well. I thought Nic (Nicole Brady) played hard and I was happy with the way Kinzi (Poteet) rebounded. Overall, I liked the way we played together as a team."
Rylee Peterson led Western Oregon with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
