Boise State Sends School Record-Tying 20 Individuals to NCAA Western Regional Track & Field Championships

All the last-chance qualifiers are done and the field is set for the two NCAA Regional Track & Field Championships.  Boise State will send 20 student-athletes in 22 events to the Western Regional in Austin Texas beginning next Thursday.  The 20 Broncos ties the most that Boise State has ever sent, matching the total of the 2007 team.

Emma Bates, a second-team All-American last season in the 5,000 and 10,000 last year, earns a spot in both events this year.  Alyssa Osai (hammer), Justin Malnes (110-hurdles) and Drew O-donoghue-McDonald (1,500) also return to the Regional this year.  

Jordin Andrade, who set a school record earlier this year, is the #5-ranked 400-meter hurdler in the West, while Daveon Collins is #6 in the 200 and #15 in the 100 and will join Andrade, Jeff Daw and Bret Scheve on the 4 x 400-meter relay team.  Boise State is the #21-ranked relay team in the region.  Scheve is also ranked #44 in the 400-meter hurdles.  Matt Post is ranked 8th in the West in the hammer, Zach Wiles is ranked #23 in the steeplechase, Malnes is #32 in the 110 hurdles, O'donoghue-McDonald is #39 in the 1,500, Austin Hamilton is #40 in the javelin and David Elliott is #45 in the 5,000.

Bates is the top-ranked Bronco woman at #13 in the 10,000 and #29 in the 5,000.  Osai is #26 in the hammer, Mackenzie Flannigan is #29 in the 200 and #32 in the 100, Tessa Murray is #33 in the 5,000, while Marisa VanderMalle is #25 in the steeplechase, Heather Pilcher is #37 in the long jump, Rici Morrill is #42 in the 1,500 and Taryn Campos is #44 in the west in the 200.  The relay team of Campos, Shannon Jacobs, Destiny Gammage and Heather Pilcher is #24 in the 4 x 100-meters.  

The competition is set for Thursday through Saturday in Austin, with the top twelve individuals and the top twelve relay teams advancing to the NCAA National Championships June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
