The Boise State volleyball team made history with its first Mountain West Conference victory. The Broncos toppled Wyoming in Laramie tonight 3-2 to advance their season record to 9-4.
Fiona Jones led Boise State with 14 kills. The Broncos won the first two sets before a furious Cowgirl rally tied the match. But Wyoming led much of the first set, as the Broncos took their first lead 16-15 on the way to a 25-20 win. The two teams battled nearly point for point in the second set before Boise State prevailed 25-23.
"I was really happy with the way the team battled when the match got tight," said coach Shawn Garus. "We let momentum slip away and allowed Wyoming back into the match. We pulled it together, fought hard in the fifth and came away with a big victory tonight."
Breann Nesselhuf had nine kills, 27 assists, 14 digs and three block assists while Liz Harden and Darlene Nwaqbuo had nine kilss each and Brittany Reardon and Elizabeth Griffin added eight kills each.
Reese Plante had 18 kills for Wyoming, wihle Jodi Purdy added 14 and Erin Kirby had 11 kills and 10 block assists.
The Broncos meet #20 Colorado State Saturday afternoon at 1.
