With a late rally, Marlena Pietzuch has won the opening set at #1 singles at the 2013 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championships. Pietzuch defeated Michelle Okhremchuck of Nevada 6-4. Sister Manuela Pietzuch was the first to record an opening-set win with a 6-0 result at #6 singles.
Nevada has won two opening sets--at #3 singles where Sophie Stevens stopped Morgan Basil 6-1, and at #5 singles, where Juliette Legendre downed Sammie Watson of Boise State 6-2.
Sandy Vo is down a break at #2 singles and trails 5-4 with Emma Verberne serving for the set. In the only other singles match, Sheila Smiley of Nevada leads Megan LaLone 3-2 with no breaks there.
Boise State leads the match 1-0 after winning the doubles point.
