Lady Broncos Down Air Force To Move To 2-0 In Mountain West Play

The Boise State women's basketball team fared better than their male counterparts, even though the Lady Broncos took on Air Force on the road while the men stayed at home.  Coach Gordy Presnell's team held off the Falcon women 81-75 as Boise State rebounded from a halftime deficit with a 14-4 run to take control.

Lauren Lenhardt, Kati Isham and Heather Pilcher combined for 61 points for Boise State in their fourth consecutive win.  Lenhardt hit 10-of-20 shots from the floor, seven-of-eight from the free throw line and even connected on two three pointers to score a season-high 29.  Isham had 19, with 14 of those in the second half, including four long-range bombs.  Pilcher had 13 points, three rebounds, six assists and four steals.  This is the seventh time this season that the Lady Broncos have scored 80 or more points.  Presnell's Broncos are now 11-6 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Boise State started out strong with a 7-0 lead, then hit just five points in the next nine minutes of play.  Air Force went into the locker room with a 33-32 lead.  Lenhardt scored 14 points in the first half.

Boise State began the second half with a run that rewarded them with a 45-37 lead with 16:47 to play.  The Broncos never trailed after that, showing the importance of starting the half strong.  Air Force did pull within two twice at 71-69 with 2:49 left and at 77-75 with 19 seconds left.  But Cinnamon Lister and Pilcher converted two free throws each down the stretch to preserve the win.

The Broncos shot a blistering 51.7% in the second half and finished at 44.4%.  They calmly sank 16-of-17 free throws and hit half their shots (9-18) from three-point range.

Dymond James led three Falcons in double-figure scoring with 24 points to go with 10 rebounds. Michelle Ivy was next with 18 points and seven rebounds, followed by Alicia Leipprandt with 16.

Boise State returns home for a nationally-televised game against Colorado State Tuesday Night at 6 in Taco Bell Arena.
