Broncos Take Five Titles in Blue & Orange Opener

Going against competition such as Oregon, BYU, UTEP and Nevada, the Boise State indoor track team captured five titles in the Blue and Orange Opener at Jackson's Track in Nampa yesterday.

Mele Vaisima topped the field in the weight throw with an outstanding mark of 64'-5" and also finished third in the shot put (43'-3").  Mackenzie Flannigan won the 300-meters in 39.8 while freshman Megan Kelley immediately proved her worth with a win in the 400-meters (58.07).  Trevor Kraychir won the men's weight throw with a mark of 64'11.5" while Kurt Felix cleared 6'-10.25" to win the high jump and set a career best in the pole vault (14'-1.25").
Taryn Campos took second to teammate Kelley in the 400 with a time of 58.31.  Racquel Jones placed second in the long jump by leaping 18'-5".  Tajanee Simmons placed third in the 300 with a time of 42.10.  Kady Stafford gave Vaisima support in the weight throw with a third-place finish of 48-4.  Freshman Debra Johnson finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 37-1.25.  Danielle Valentine cleared 12'-1.5" to finish third in the pole vault.  
Chase Sexton finished second in the shot put for the Broncos with a heave of 55-3.5.  Justin Maines captured second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.12) while Karrie Butler (49.38) and Jeff Daw (49.45) finished second and third, respectively, in the 400.  

Boise State will be back in action next Saturday at Jackson's with the Bronco Invitational.
