The Bronco track team, which did not fare well in the indoor portion of the season, is striving to do better this spring. The team needed to improve and they have so far, setting 17 personal records at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational yesterday.
David Elliott broke a 37-year school record last night in the 1,500 meters at the Bryan Clay Invite in Walnut, California. Elliott beat 208 competitors in winning the event in 3:41.61. Elliott's time was just 34/100th's off the stadium record.
Marisa Howard, runner-up in the steeplechase at the NCAA Championships last year, is running new events this year. Howard finished fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:21.05, the third-best performance in school history, and a new meet record.
Emma Bates set a school record in the 1,500 meters but still finished in 11th place at the Mt. SAC Relays in Sacramento, California. Bates ran the distance in 4:16.37, but was a full eight seconds off the pace. Emma now owns school records in the 1,500, 5000 and 10,000.
