Bronco Alum Norman Davis--Blue Through and Through!

Norman Davis became fascinated with radio from the time he was three.  He listened to old radio shows like "The Aldrich Family Show", "The Jack Benny Show", "The Lone Ranger" and others.  Davis grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota but eventually his family moved to Boise.

In college, Davis enrolled in a broadcasting course at Boise Junior College (now Boise State University).  His education there landed him a job at KGEM in Boise in 1953.  Davis went on to several respected radio stations, including KOBY, KYA, KSFO, KSAN, KMPX, KKCY and KOFY in San Francisco, KLZ in Denver, KCMO in Kansas City and KKSN and KBOO in Portland, Oregon.  In 1989, he produced his first all-blues series.  Davis moved back to the city he still considers his "hometown", Boise and hosted three blues shows on two Idaho stations.  He co-founded the Boise Blues Society and began writing features and reviews for various blues magazines.

In 1991, Davis was hired by KLON in Long Beach, California to host two weekend shows featuring the blues and two jazz programs.  He moved to Portland in 1994, served on the Cascade Blues Association Board and began producing Midnight Flyer, a three-hour blues show on KBOO.  The show was syndicated and began airing nationally in August of 1998.

In his career, Davis has interviewed many blues performers including Roy Buchanan, Jimmy Reed, Hubert Sumlin, Gatemouth Brown, Barbara Dean Snooky Pryor, John Mayall, Roy Rogers, Jason Ricci and many others.

"Midnight Flyer" is now a two-hour show but it is still broadcast to a network of stations weekly and features blues music, interviews, biographies and stories about the blues.

Congratulations to Bronco alum Norman Davis!
