Another Path to the Cup

In the Cup Standings I posted earlier, I mentioned that if the Boise State men's track team finished ahead of Fresno State, Boise State would clinch the WAC Commissioner's Cup.  I just analyzed all the data from softball and track and here is another path:

If the Boise State softball team wins today, Boise State will also all but clinch the Cup.  This is because the Lady Broncos would get a minimum of 3.5 points for postseason in softball and the most Fresno State could get would be 4 for postseason.  Fresno State is likely to get 6.5 points for baseball (second place in the regular season and first in the tournament).  There are still two weeks left in that season--currently Hawai'i is 13-4 and Fresno State is 13-7.  The highest that Fresno State can now finish in women's track is third place while Boise State could get last, resulting in a five-point advantage there.  The lowest that Boise State can now finish in men's track is third and the highest Fresno State can finish is first, resulting in a two-point difference.

Add them together:
0.5
6.5
5.0
2.0

= 14 is the maximum number of points that Fresno could pick up.  Fresno State is 14.25 points behind currently.  Again, note that if Fresno State could bounce back and win the regular season in baseball, that would give them a half a point which would win the cup by .25 points.

In any case, an announcement could be coming today.  It isn't a "done deal" yet.
