FORT COLLINS, Colorado--Bronco senior Samantha Martin broke Katie Street's school record for the most career Top 25 finishes by a women's golfer (22) when Martin finished in a tie for 15th place at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic yesterday.
Martin began the round tied for 33rd, but finished with a 73 in Boise State's season opener. Samantha shot a 222 for the three-round tournament (71-78-73, +6).
"Sam was very steady today," Boise State head coach Nicole Bird said. "She had some bogeys but also some great birdies. She got her putting figured out a bit better for today so that was good to see. It was a great start by the whole team and now we know what we can build on going forward."
Boise State finished with a team score of 892 (+28) on the part 72 course, with rounds of 292, 298 and 302 to tie for fifth, ahead of Mountain West Conference teams Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada and Wyoming.
Boise State travels to the Rose City Collegiate Tournament in Portland, Oregon next weekend.
