In a field dominated by professionals, Emma Bates broke her own school record and finished seventh in the 5,000 meters yesterday at the Palo Alto Invite in California. But Bates had plenty of company in impressive Bronco performances.

Freshman Emma Hyppa is being counted on to continue in Howard's footsteps in the steeplechase. Hyppa made her debut and ran the distance in 10:37.65, the third-best performance in school history.
David Elliott finished the men's 5,000 in 13:50, the second-fastest in school history. Allan Schroeder clocked the third-best time in school history in the men's steeplechase, with a time of 8:46.48.
