The two-time Mountain West Conference champion Boise State men's tennis team will face #26 Clemson in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament May 10 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Clemson was 18-7 this year, while the Broncos were 20-9. The Tigers have three seniors, two juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen in their lineup. Clemson lost 4-0 to #2 Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, and also lost to them earlier in the year 7-0. Clemson owns wins over #22 Auburn (5-2), #28 Alabama (5-2), #34 Florida State (4-3), #48 Louisville (4-0), #54 North Carolina (6-1) and #55 Miami of Florida (4-3).
Clemson lost 6-0 to #3 Georgia, to #9 Duke (7-0), to #17 South Carolina (4-3), to #24 Wake Forest (4-3), to #38 North Carolina State (4-2) and to Boston College.
Boise State defeated #50 Texas Tech (4-3) to win the Blue-Gray Championship and also beat #31 Notre Dame (4-3), #36 Minnesota (4-3) and blanked #72 Nebraska and lost to #18 California (4-1), #33 Washington (5-2), #39 BYU (4-3), #40 San Diego (5-2), #41 Stanford (4-3), #43 San Diego State (4-3), #48 Louisville (4-1) and two matches to #60 Santa Clara.
Boise State's highest finish was the quarterfinals in 1991 and 1997, when they were ranked #4 in the nation. The Broncos made the Sweet 16 in 1990, 1998 and 2005.
