Swartz was the only other Bronco to wrestle two bouts in the morning session. The redshirt junior earned a pair of decisions against Sean Pollock and Ryan Davies and will face Kevin Radford of Arizona State in the finals. Swartz defeated Radford by major decision in a dual match this season. Owen, Ivanov and Felix each had byes to the semifinal round where each won by decision. Felix's semifinal match against Levi Cooper was highlighted as the last bout of the session while each of the other two mats were empty. The meeting lived up to the showcase as Felix won in the tiebreaker. After Cooper rode Felix for the first 30 second period, Felix chose a neutral position to start the second period, sacrificing a point and giving Cooper a 3-2 lead. The decision turned out to be a wise one as he first got a stalling point to level the score at three apiece immediately followed by a takedown to seal the win, 5-3 and punch a ticket to the finals where he will face top-seeded and fourth-ranked Chad Hanke of Oregon State. Ivanov will also see a Beaver in the finals as he gets a rematch against RJ Pena. The two have gone toe-to-toe eight times in the past two years and are even at a 4-4 record. Owen will see Devon Lotito of Cal Poly. Travis Himmelman (141) and Holden Packard each went 1-1 during the opening session. Himmelman gave his team a bonus point with a major decision against Josh Lauderdale in the first round before dropping a one-point decision to Timmy Box in the semifinals. The redshirt freshman made a charge from down 4-0 but was held off and sent to the consolation bracket. Packard entered as the two seed and defeated Connor King of Cal Poly by an 8-5 decision to start things off but fell against the No. 3 seed Bret Baumbach in the second round. Rami Haddadin (125), Scott Bacon (174), and Cody Dixon (197) each went 0-1 and will look for third-place finishes in the consolation bracket. Dixon held his own against the sixth-ranked Taylor Meeks of Oregon State and led most of the bout, but it was a last-second takedown that would give Meeks the 6-4 win. Consolation semifinals will get the second session started at 3:30 p.m. MT which will be followed by the first, third and fifth-place matches of going simultaneously starting at 5 p.m. |
