After a disappointing loss to Portland State, the Boise State softball team bounced back for an overpowering 11-3 win over Northwestern of the Big 10 Conference this morning in Tempe, Arizona at the Kajikawa Classic.
The Lady Broncos pounced on three Wildcat pitchers for all 11 runs in the final four innings after Northwestern had taken a 1-0 lead through the first three. Sarah Barnes got things going in the fourth with a walk. Brittany McCray doubled, scoring Barnes, and Brittany later scored on one of five errors today by the Wildcats.
In a stellar Bronco fifth, Holly Bourke singled, then Devon Bridges reached on a fielder's choice. Ashley Palmer followed with a blast over the wall in left center to give Coach Erin Thorpe's team its first lead at 2-1. Barnes followed with a homer of her own, but Boise State wasn't done yet. McCray and Jordan Kreiger both reached on errors, and Makenna Weir was safe on a fielder's choice leaving runners on first and second. Ashley Collier came through with a single that scored Kreiger. After Glover reached first on another error to load the bases, Bourke's single up the middle scored Weir and Collier.
Bridges ripped a homer in the sixth for a 9-1 Bronco lead. In the seventh, Glover singled, stole second, and came home on Bourke's single. Bridges followed with a safety of her own to drive in Bourke.
Rebecca Patton went the route in picking up the win for the Broncos. Patton scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked one.
Bourke led the Bronco hitting attack with a 3-5 day and three RBI's. Bridges went 2-5 with the home run and two RBI's while McCray was 2-3. Amy Letourneau led Northwestern by going 2-3.
