Boise State senior Jason Chamberlain downed 2012 NCAA Champion Frank Molinaro to win the freestyle 66 kg division at the World University Trials over the weekend and will represent the United States at the World University Games in Finland this October.
Chamberlain qualified into the final after winning the University National Freestyle Championships in June. Molinaro won the challenge bracket, advancing to the best-of-three final. Chamberlain won the first period of the first round, 3-0 and earned the tiebreak of the second period. In round two, Molinari won the first period, 1-0, but Chamberlain won two consecutive periods (3-0m, 1-0) to earn his place on the American freestyle team.
Former Bronco Andrew Hochstrasser was one win away from the final in the 60 kg division. Hochstrasser won his first to matches before losing to three-time All-American Jimmy Kennedy of Illinois in the Challenge Finals. Adam Hall of Boise State was third at 66 kg. Brian Owen wrestled in the same bracket as Hochstrasser, finishing 1-2 on the day.
