Chris Petersen of Boise State Ranked as the #2 Coach in the Nation

Boise State' football coach Chris Petersen was named by The Sporting News today as the #2 coach in the country in its ranking of each of the 124 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches.

There are only two surprises in the list.  The first is, Petersen should be #1.  The second surprise is that Boise State isn't in one of the top conferences in the country.  However, it's a coup for the Mountain West to have the #2 coach instead of the SEC, Pac-12, Big 10 or Big 12, and a real bragging point for the Big East that they landed the team with the #2 coach in the business.

Petersen is 73-6 since taking over the Bronco program in 2006.  That's a winning percentage of 92.4%, plus two Fiesta Bowl championships.

Petersen was preceded by only Alabama’s Nick Saban, and was joined in the top 10 by Urban Meyer (Ohio State), Les Miles (LSU), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), Chip Kelly (Oregon), Gary Patterson (TCU), Steve Spurrier (South Carolina), Frank Beamer (Virginia Tech) and Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State).
