Nicole Brady and Lauren Lenhardt combined for 35 points as Boise State defeated New Mexico 68-64 this afternoon in Albuquerque.
Coach Gordy Presnell's team used a timely 16-4 run to take a 63-48 lead with 4:17 left, then held off the Lobos down the stretch. The victory snapped Boise State's five-game losing streak as they advanced to 12-11 overall and 3-5 in conference.
Brady hit 17 of Boise State's 29 points in the first half and finished with 19. Brady hit seven-of-11 from the floor and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. The Lady Broncos took a 29-26 lead into the locker room. Boise State never trailed in the second half as Lenhardt, in foul trouble in the opening half, exploded for 16 points. The junior from Eagle, Idaho, scored 12 consecutive points in one stretch to give Boise State a 45-40 lead with 11:39 to play. Lenhardt finished with a six-for-11 shooting performance, five rebounds and one steal.
Ahead 47-44 with 9:28 remaining, the Broncos went on their run and held on for the win to sweep the season series with New Mexico. Kati Isham netted 13 points, including eight in the second half. Cinnamon Lister had seven points and a team-leading five assists.
Caroline Durbin led New Mexico with 27 points followed by Porche Torrance with 17 and a game-high 15 boards.
Boise State shot 43.8 percent in the second half to finish the game at 41 percent, 33.3 percent (5-15) from the arc and a solid 76.5 percent (13-17) from the free-throw line. New Mexico finished at 40.4 percent from the hardwood, 30 percent (3-10) from the arc and 75 percent (15-20) from the charity stripe. The Lobos outrebounded the Broncos 42 to 35.
