Boise State sophomore Devon Bridges was named to the Watch list for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year today, according to the Amateur Softball Association of America. Bridges is the first player from Boise State to earn that distinction and just the seventh in Mountain West Conference history.
Bridges shattered school records for batting average (.393) RBI's (53), walks (37), on-base percentage (.531) and slugging percentage (.785) in her freshman season. She also led the Lady Broncos with 16 home runs and tied for the national lead with three grand slams in earning All-Western Athletic Conference honors and second-team All-Pacific Region.
The 25 finalists for the Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced April 11. That list will be narrowed to 10 on May 9 and three on May 23, with the Player of the Year announced May 29.
