After Utah, BYU and TCU bailed from the Mountain West, it appears that the conference is now stronger than the Big East. So says Brad Edwards of ESPN.
Edwards said that in his analysis of the numbers for the next qualifying period for the Bowl Championship Series, the Mountain West is ahead of the Big East (which TCU left for). The Big East currently is considered an automatic-qualifying conference while the Mountain West is not. Of course that has huge implications for the postseason as the Big East champion automatically qualifies for a BCS Bowl (even if they are ranked #30) while the Mountain West champion has to hope it is ranked in the final 12.
