Bronco Women Down #54 Oregon 5-2

To the poor Duck fans, Boise State has to seem like the school that won't go away.

The Boise State women's tennis team topped Oregon 5-2 yesterday at the BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex in a match much closer than the final score might indicate.  Four singles matches were decided in three sets.

Elyse Edwards and Sonia Klamczynska teamed to defeat Julia Metzger and Trudie Du Toit 8-6 at #2 doubles and Stephanie Jasper & Sandy Vo followed with an 8-6 win over Oregon's Rabea Stuckemann and Pascale Neubert to capture the doubles point for the Broncos.

Marlena Pietzuch scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Neubert at #5 singles and Edwards was victorious over Du Toi 6-4, 6-2.  Suddenly, the Broncos were looking at a 3-0 lead.  Meanwhile, all four remaining matches were stretched to three sets and the outcome was still in doubt.  Metzger defeated Jasper 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 to put the Ducks on the board.  At the time, Boise State trailed in two of the three remaining matches and Klamczynska knew she had to get it done.  The Bronco star came back from a 3-6 first set to win 6-1 in consecutive sets to clinch the win for Boise State. 

Pavlina Smatova, the #79 singles player in the U.S., defeated Boise State's Lauren Megale for Oregon's other win.  Morgan Basil closed out the match with an exciting 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) win.

Boise State is now 11-6 this season and doesn't see action again until April 2 when they host San Jose State and Montana State.
