Boise State Advances to CBI Final Four

Freshman Ryan Watkins scored a career-high 19 points to lead Boise State to a 76-67 victory over Evansville tonight in Taco Bell Arena to advance to the semi-finals of the College Basketball Invitational Tournament.

In fact, three freshmen (Jeff Elorriaga and Thomas Bropleh) play considerably down the stretch as the Broncos consistently beat back Purple Ace challenges with solid passing and clutch shooting.  Watkins added eight rebounds as the Broncos commanded the boards 28-17.  Watkins was called upon to generate offense as leading scorer La'Shard Anderson got in foul trouble early and was kept in check by tenacious play from the Evansville guards.

Daequon Montreal contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, Anderson was able to net 11 and Westly Perryman scored 10 for the Broncos, who have won 10 of their last 11 games for Coach Leon Rice.

Ned Cox had 17 points to lead the Purple Aces, while Kenny Harris had 16, Denver Holmes 13 and Colt Ryan 10.

With the victory, Boise State (22-12) advances to the final four of the CBI.  The Broncos will be joined by Central Florida (21-11), Creighton (21-14) and Oregon (18-17).
