Boise State Basketball Gets Paris Austin
According to comments on YouTube, Boise State has gotten the commitment of this smooth 5-11 guard from Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland. He reminds me of Chris Childs--if he is anywhere near as good, the Broncos are set at that position.
Boise State Women Take Second in Mountain West Cross Country Championships; Bronco Men Fourth
Emma Bates and Marisa Howard staged a dominating performance over the field in taking first and second, and the #23 Bronco women's cross country team once again finished second at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships in Fresno, California.
Howard and Bates raced out to the early lead and continued to extend it over the six-kilometer course. Bates win individual honors with a time of 19:37.3, while Howard finished in 19:53.4, crossing the finish line 25 seconds ahead of the third-place runner.
As dominating as Bates and Howard were, so too were the Lobos. #10 New Mexico successfully defended their conference title with just 33 points to 58 for the Lady Broncos. Wyoming finished third with 79 points, followed by Colorado State (103), Air Force with 141, Nevada in sixth with 163 points, Utah State (180), Fresno State (225), ninth-place UNLV with 245, San Diego State (276) and San Jose State with 295 points.
David Elliott won the men's title with a time of 23:38.7, marking just the first time in school history that Boise State swept individual cross country titles, with Melinda Campbell and Cormac Smith being the last Broncos to do it in 1997 when Boise State was in the Big West Conference. #18 New Mexico won the Mountain West team title with 26 points, with Air Force (73 points) upsetting #25 Colorado State (76) for second. The Bronco men were fourth with 79 points, followed by Utah State (152), Wyoming (160), host Fresno State with 181 and San Jose State with 197 points.
Howard, Bates, and Elliott all earned First Team All-Mountain West Conference honors for their performances, with Bates and Elliott winning Female and Male Athlete of the Year honors, respectively. Freshmen Emma Hyyppa and Andrew Rafla captured rookie accolades, as Hyyppa finished 23rd and Rafla took 10th place. Rafla also earned Second-Team All-Conference honors, the first freshman in school history to accomplish that feat. Sarah Hastings, who finished 13th, and Michael Vennard, who came in 14th on the men's side, also earned Second Team honors.

Boise State Swimmers Whip Oregon State 178-84
It wasn't long ago that only the football team was dominating PAC-12 competition. The #23 Boise State swimming and diving team won 10 of 14 events yesterday in Corvallis to score a 178-84 win at Oregon State. The win was the third straight over a PAC-12 team over two seasons.
"We swam very well tonight. There were some great races and OSU helped raise our level of competition," said Boise State head coach Kristin Hill. "We had a strong start to the season in our first two dual-meet wins earlier this month against Utah and Idaho, and today we took a big step forward as a team."
Sophomore Brittany Aoyama posted an NCAA B Standard time in winning the 100-yard butterfly in 54:06. But the brilliant Bronco wasn't done. She also won the 100 freestyle and helped the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams to victories.
Junior Sam Wicks also captured four events on the evening. In addition to the two relay teams with Aoyama, Wicks won the 100 backstroke and 50 free, just missing NCAA B Standard times herself.
Oregon State's Sammy Harrison was a double-winner, taking first in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races.
After Harrison's first win, however, Boise State captured the next six events to take a commanding 89-31 lead. Felicity Cann won the 200 free, Wicks touched first in the 100 back, Emma Chard won the 100 breast, Jessica Bottelberghe won the 200 fly, Wicks won the 50 freestyle and Aoyama captured the 100 free. Sophomore Whitney Jorgensen later won the 400 IM in 4:28.90.
The Boise State divers, which did not compete last night, are prepping for the USC Diving Invitational November 7-9. The Bronco swimmers have three weeks to get ready for the prestigious Texas A&M Invitational November 20-22, where they will test their mettle against some of the top teams in the nation.

Broncos Clinch Mountain West Tournament Berth with 1-0 Win
The surging Boise State soccer team held off Utah State 1-0 this afternoon to clinch a spot in the Mountain West Championships with its fourth consecutive win.
"We're getting good at this," said head coach Jim Thomas. "We were a little dodgy at the start, found a way and all of a sudden the season is starting to become what we were expecting. The resiliency you've seen and this run we've had of late has been marked by our young players following the great example set by our two seniors set."
Freshman Dani Brown scored in the 68th minute after taking a pass from Kayla Tucker, and the goal would hold up as freshman Bronco keeper Janell Flores shut out the Aggies, running Boise State's string of not allowing a goal to 411:25. Tucker finished the season with a team-high five assists, tied for sixth all-time.
The Lady Broncos finished 6-5 in Mountain West play and are 9-8-3 overall. Utah State finished the regular season at 6-4-1 and 10-7-2.
The Mountain West Tournament begins Wednesday in San Diego.

Freshman Sierra Nobley had 24 kills and 10 digs, while Sarah Baugh had 44 assists to move into third place in career assists at Boise State with 1,957.

"I am really proud of the way the entire team played tonight," said head coach Shawn Garus. "The way they fought back after dropping the first set took a lot of heart. They never let up and kept chipping away at it. I love the fact that they came out and competed when they had their backs to the wall. Hannah (Hubbard) did a great job defensively, Sarah was solid distributing the ball around, and I thought Maddy (O'Donnell) had a key play in the second set when she had a big hit that came down hard on a defender. I thought that picked the team up and gave us a boost of energy. Overall a very good effort by the team and a big win for our program."
Boise State hosts Fresno State this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bronco Gym.

Lady Broncos Finish Second at the GIve 'Em Five Invitational; Martin Wins Individual Title
The improving Boise State women's golf team surged through the field again at the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Invitational today, finishing in second place with a three-round score of 860. Samantha Martin recorded nine birdies and nine pars today to tie for individual honors with a three-round score of 206.
"Everything was going great throughout my round," Martin said. "I hit almost every fairway and I believe I hit every green. My ball striking was amazing, I was sticking my shots close and my putting was incredible. I stayed patient and gave myself opportunities to make birdies, and the putts were just falling in.
"I can't believe how well I played and I'm happy with how I finished. I didn't really think about my score during the round and just focused on one shot at a time. I feel that helped me to play well, and I'm excited to come out on top."
Martin broke the school record for a three-round tournament by eight strokes, and her nine-under par 63 today beat the school mark by five strokes. Martin also broke the New Mexico State University Golf Course record by two strokes.
Martin's three career victories are now the most in school history, as she also won the title at the Winthrop Collegiate and earned co-medalist honors at the Cowgirl Classic last year.
McKenzie Ford shot a 70 today while sophomore Dana Clary fired a 71. Boise State's final round score of 278 broke the school record set yesterday, and was the lowest round of the tournament. Up until this tournament, no Boise State team had ever shot a sub-par round, but registered back-to-back rounds of better-than-par in the second and third rounds this week. The Lady Broncos' score of 860 beat the school's three-round scoring record by a whopping 22 strokes. Boise State finished under par for the tournament for the first time in school history.
Ford finished tied for ninth individually with a 54-hole score of 215.
Boise State will compete next week in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

Juniors McKenzie Ford and Samantha Martin each had second-round scores of 70, whie sophomore Genevieve Ling had an even-part 72 and sophomore Dana Clary and junior Sammie Pless each shot 73.
"I'm really proud of this team and its ability to grind," head coach Nicole Bird said.. "They had the right combination of focus and energy today, and they played solid throughout the 18 holes. The progress they're making is amazing, and our process is starting to pay off."
The previous school record was 289, set last year in the Fresno State Classic. The final round of the Price's Tournament begins tomorrow.
Boise State Women's Cross Country Team Ranked #16

Emma Bates Named Mountain West Cross Country Women's Athlete of the Week
Boise State's biggest star in any sport apparently didn't rest over the offseason. She's right back where she left off last track season. Bates placed sixth in the Roy Griak Invitational, leading her teammates to a fourth-place finish. Emma is the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week, the second time this year she's won the award.
And more good news--Boise State is now #17 in the nation in cross country, the highest rank ever for the Broncos.

Bronco Volleyball Team Scores Impressive Win Over 11-3 Wyoming
The Wyoming Cowgirls came into the Mountain West Conference volleyball opener with a sparkling 11-2 mark, but it was the homestanding Boise State Broncos that came away with the 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 25-19 victory in Bronco Gym tonight.
Alyssa Gammel and Sierra Nobley combined for 34 kills, and Gammel's six service aces set a school record for a four-set match as Boise State improved to 8-5 overall.
With the match tied at one set apiece, Gammel stepped up by serving four consecutive points, including two aces, to stretch the Bronco lead to 16-7 in the third set. Gammel then opened the fourth set serving for seven straight points, including three aces. That 7-0 advantage proved to be insurmountable as the Broncos clinched the match with a 25-19 victory.
Gammel finished with 15 kills, one assist, 10 digs and one block to go with her six aces. Gammel is tied for seventh most all-time, but the other six achieved their marks in five sets. Nobley recorded a team-high 19 kills and hit 36 percent of her shots while racking up seven digs, two blocks and two aces. Maddy O'Donnell added nine kills while hitting 64.3%.
