Andrade Breaks School Record to Highlight Bronco Track

Bronco track and field members were scattered all over the country, but none did as well as Jordin Andrade.

Andrade broke the school record in the 400-meter hurdles, placing third at the Texas Relays in Austin with a time of 50.71.  

Daveon Collins recorded the third-fastest outdoor 200 time in school history (20.78) in winning the event at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas.  Heather Pilcher won the women's 100 with a time of 11.85 and also captured the long jump title by leaping 18-feet, 11.75 inches, Jeff Daw was fifth in the men's 400 with a time of 48.89 while Bret Scheve took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.02).  Lauran Johnson was fifth in the women's triple (38-7).

Bronco Tennis Team Drops to #46

Despite a successful weekend, the Boise State tennis team dropped in the College Tennis Online Rankings this week to #46.  

Boise State Gymnasts Will Compete in Corvallis

Boise State has been selected to compete in the Corvallis Regional to determine the field for the NCAA Championships.  The Broncos join #6 Georgia, host #10 Oregon State, and #16 Arkansas along with Arizona State and California April 6 at the Corvallis Regional.

Yet again, Blue Through and Through is the first source to tell you this, even faster than Boise State itself.

Boise State's softball team is trying to salvage the nightcap of a doubleheader with Tulsa in Las Vegas.  It's 5-5 with the Golden Hurricane batting in the bottom of the fourth.

Bronco Wrestlers Finish 19th in the Nation at NCAA's

Pretty solid effort for half of a team.  Five Bronco wrestlers scored 29 points to finish 19th this year at the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Boise State Upsets #13 Denver To Win WAC Championship

Once again, Blue Through and Through was first in Idaho to tell you of this Boise State event, and a pretty big one, as they knocked off the #13 team in the nation to win a conference championship.  You can get your Boise State news after the fact, or you can get it first right here.

Denver may been the odds-on favorite to win the 2013 WAC Gymnastics Championship, but don't tell that to Boise State.  The Lady Broncos came to compete and Boise State scored a dramatic 196.225 to 196.125 victory over Denver.

Coach Neil Resnick and Tina Birrd's team started out on beam, where they scored a nice 48.900.  Caitlin Mann led the way with a 9.850, just the beginning of a stellar night for her.  Brittany Potvin-Green and Alessandra Cinfio each contributed 9.800's, the minimum score needed for each Bronco gymnast to have a chance to make nationals.  Denver had a bye in the first rotation.

Boise State then had a bye before moving to the floor, while Denver began on bars and scored 49.075 with Nina McGee earning a 9.925.  

Boise State competed on floor in the next rotation where they scored 48.725 points.  Kelsey Black was amazing with 9.875, while Mann and Kelsey Morris each were awarded scores of 9.825.  After two events and three rotations, the Broncos had accumulated 97.625 points.  Denver was on beam in the third rotation and scored 48.475 points.

The Broncos moved to their specialty next--vault, and were on their game with a 49.400.  Black was sensational again with a 9.925 while Ciera Perkins and Mann each had 9.9's.  Amanda Otuafi contributed with a 9.850 while Potvin-Green earned a 9.825.  Four rotations in and Boise State had 147.025.  Denver had another bye and was stuck at 97.550.

Boise State had another bye in the next rotation, while Denver took to the floor.  Denver scored 49.275 points with McGee again earning a 9.925  With one rotation to go, Denver had accumulated 146.825.  

Boise State then finished up on bars.  Mann scored another 9.900 to lead her team to a 49.200 in the event and the WAC title.  Morris was right behind at 9.875 while Erin Wippermann and Black each had 9.8's.  Denver finished on vault and rang up a fine score of 49.300, but it was just shy of what they needed for the title.  

Mann finished with a 39.475 all-around while Black had 39.325 and Morris 39.175.  Those are three pretty solid performances by ladies competing in all four events.

Three More Matches Before Chamberlain

The 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships have gone through the heavyweight class and will now continue at 125 pounds.  Jason and opponent Oliver are fourth up, so an estimated 45 more minutes--about 8:00 or so Mountain time.

Chamberlain Has A Long Wait

They are starting with the 174-pound matching, reaching heavyweight, then going to 125 pounds and working their way up.  Which means Chamberlain at 149 pounds will be one of the last to compete tonight.  He and Jordan Oliver will hook up for the national title, probably at least an hour away.

Boise State Splits With Texas Tech

After having trouble with Big Sky schools last week, the Boise State softball team rebounded for a split with Texas Tech today.

Devon Bridges accounted for all four runs as the Broncos defeated the Red Raiders 4-2 in the nightcap.  Bridges singled in Tara Glover in the fifth, then blasted a three-run homer in the seventh to win it.  Boise State lost in the opening game 3-2.

Boise State Tops Marquette

The Boise State tennis team, riding high after its Blue Gray Classic Championship, are home to host the SpringHill Invitational.  The Broncos downed Marquette today, 6-1.

Bronco Wrestlers Fall to 19th

Since Jason Chamberlain is the only Bronco still wrestling, Boise State has fallen from 12th to 19th place.  If he can win, Chamberlain will improve Boise State's point total, but their place will be about the same.  Currently, they are wrestling off for 7th place, 5th place, 3rd place, etc. in each of the weight classifications before they have the championships.

Big Day for Bronco Sports

Jason Chamberlain goes for gold tonight in the championship match at 149 pounds in Des Moines, Iowa.  Chamberlain would be the third Bronco to capture a national title in wrestling if he can get the job done tonight.  He is facing the top seed however in the match.

The Bronco gymnasts will have to perform at their best to topple Denver at the WAC Championships.  Denver is the #13 team in the nation while Boise State is the next-highest team.

Bronco Weight Throwers Do Well in Arizona

Matt Post led the Boise State contingent at the ASU Invite Track & Field meet in Tempe, placing third in the hammer.  Post threw a career-best 196' 2".  Alyssa Osai was fourth in the women's hammer with a career-best of 194-10.  The throw was just four inches outside of Boise State's all-time top three in the event.

Chamberlain Wins, Will Wrestle in Championship Match

Jason Chamberlain of Boise State won his semifinal match 7-3 and will take on Jordan Oliver of Oklahoma tomorrow night for the national championship at 149 pounds.

Half a Boise State Team has 19.5 Points

If all 10 members of the Bronco wrestling team were at the NCAA's and did as well as this five, Boise State would have 39 points right now and would be in third place.  Incentive for the rest of the team to join the party next year!

Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and Nebraska are the teams immediately ahead of Boise State and we'll try to keep you posted on how they do as well.

A Nebraska wrestler is going at 184 and won 7-5 so they'll move further ahead.  Kolb lost at 197 and is out.

They're going to wait until the Consolation matches are over at 197 before proceeding with the heavyweight quarterfinals.
