Looking at the Teams Ahead of the Boise State Gymnasts
As hinted at in the article earlier today, the Boise State gymnastics team will have to have a superior effort in their regular season finale against BYU to move into the Top 12 in the NCAA National women's gymnastics rankings.
After this weekend, here are the Regional Qualifying Scores for the teams ranked #11-#16:
11. Stanford (196.315)
12. Penn State (196.230)
13. Ohio State (196.080)
14. Boise State (195.990)
15. Auburn (195.965)
16. Missouri (195.825)
The Broncos' road scores that count in their RQS have actually been pretty good. Boise State has scored 196.850, 196.025 and 195.750 this season. But they have only scored above 196 at home twice this season, a 196.175 and a 196.125. The score Boise State needs to get off of their record is the 195.875 they scored against California. They'll have that opportunity against BYU Friday night.
I have looked at Boise State's RQS, and these are the scores they need against BYU to catch the teams ahead of them (of course, those teams will likely also improve.)

Boise State Should Move Up to Top 70 in Learfield Cup Standings
So far, the school year has been disappointing for the Boise State athletic program, with just one conference championship (women's swimming). In the Learfield Cup Standings, which attempt to rank colleges and universities on the best overall athletic program, Boise State's only points since September have been in football.
The Broncos picked up 73.50 points in football with their sixth place finish in January. Since then, Boise State has not scored any points. The Learfield Cup awards points in an inverted manner based on a school's finish in each sport sanctioned by the NCAA. The National Champion in each sport gets 100 points, and most teams that finish in the Top 25 get points in their sport, with some sports (such as track and field, swimming and wrestling) awarding Learfield Cup points to any school that scores points in a NCAA championship.
The drought is now over, thanks to the Bronco swimmers, wrestlers and women's track and field team. The Boise State swimming team finished 47th at this weekend's NCAA Championships and are estimated to receive about 19 points. The Bronco women's track team was 48th at the recent NCAA Indoor Championships in Nampa, earning approximately 23 points while the Boise State men's wrestling team was 51st at this weekend's NCAA Championships in St. Louis, and should receive about 23 Cup points. Last year, the Bronco swimmers were 39th, getting 28 points, and the Boise State wrestlers were ninth in the nation, and were awarded 69 Cup points.
This should give Boise State approximately 138.5 Learfield Cup points when the next Learfield Cup Standings are published next Thursday. The Broncos will be virtually tied with Utah, the school recently chosen for expansion in the Pac-12, as well as Northern Illinois, New Hampshire, Villanova and Toledo. Even in a year in which the Broncos are not at their best, Boise State is ahead of Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Kansas, Washington State, Mississippi State and Oregon State and within range of Rutgers, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Clemson and Villanova. You will find the estimated Cup totals for schools from #60-100 at the bottom of this article.

With the final winter sports wrapping up (basketball and gymnastics) and the spring sports left after that, Boise State will score big in women's gymnastics, where the Broncos are currently ranked 15th, and has a chance to score points in men's tennis, men's and women's outdoor track & field and softball.

Broncos Swimmers Finish Fourth at NCAA's Among Mountain West Teams
The Boise State women won the Mountain West Swimming Championship in dramatic style, but that did not translate into success at the NCAA National Championships. The Broncos finished 47th with two team points.
Wyoming was the top Mountain West school in 37th place, while UNLV finished 43rd and San Diego State 45th.

Bronco Swimmers Take 47th Place
The shutout in freestyle events at the 2012 Swimming & Diving Championships resulted in a lower finish for Boise State this year. The Bronco swimmers tallied two team points this year for a finish of 47th place.
That should give Boise State approximately 20 points in the Learfield Cup.

Boise State Wrestlers Finish 51st in the Nation
Coach Greg Randall's Boise State wrestlers finished 51st at the 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, Missouri with 3.5 points.

North, Boucher Get 19th & 23rd in 100 Freestyle at 2012 NCAA Swimming Championships
Boise State's Stephanie North & Amber Boucher swam like the veteran NCAA Championship swimmers that they are, finishing 19th and 23rd in the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries this morning. Both just missed qualifying for the finals tonight by less than 15/100th's of a second.

Junior Brittany Potvin-Green became the star last night that the Boise State gymnastics team has been looking for.
Potvin-Green tied for the second-best all-around performance in school history as #15 Boise State dazzled the crowd with a 196.850 score, the fifth-best in Bronco history. And even better in multiple ways: they did it on the road at Southern Utah. Hitting 196 to 197 was a must if the team has any aspirations of advancing past the NCAA Regionals, for that is the score that Top 10 teams get each and every week. The Thunderbirds had an excellent night as well, scoring 195.875 to do themselves proud.
Potvin-Green earned her fourth all-around title with a career-best 39.575. Potvin-Green tied the mark set in 2004 by Carla Chambers for second all-time at Boise State. Brittany is now tied for the #6 spot for single season all-around victories.
"Brittany had a great night tonight," said co-head coach Tina Bird. "She did some exciting gymnastics, but it was a true team effort from top to bottom. Senior Lindsay Kazandjian was a superstar on bars and beam. I'm so proud of her. Amanda (Otuafi) did so great tonight as well. She was really rooting her teammates on and stuck an amazing vault to earn a 9.90!"

Boise State set the pace from the beginning, posting a team score of 49.350 on bars, the best this season and fourth-best bars score on Bronco gymnastics history. After sitting out the past two weeks, Amy Glass returned with a vengeance. Glass tied her career-best of 9.925 to win the event, her sixth career win on bars. Freshman Ciera Perkins finished second with a career-beat 9.90. The Broncos did what they had to do to jump to the next level, with no bar score below 9.80. Potvin-Green and Caitlin Mann each turned in 9.850 scores and Kelsey Black and Lindsay Kazandjian each had 9.8's.
The Lady Broncos did not skip a beat on vault with a 49.350, fourth-best in the record books. Potvin-Green moved into a tie for eighth with her fifth win of the season, scoring 9.925. Otuafi hit a 9.90, while Perkins and Black each scored 9.850. Erica Oswalt earned a 9.825 score from the judges while Mann scored 9.80. Once again, no Bronco under 9.8.
Potvin-Green nailed a 9.90 floor routine to get her second win of the night. Otuafi and Perkins each had 9.825 scores, but on this event, three Broncos were below 9.80.
Boise State also posted the seventh-best beam routine last night with a 49.250. Potvin-Green earned a career-best 9.90 to place second while Bekah Gher scored a 9.875. Kazandjian had a great routine (9.850) while Glass scored 9.825 and Alessandra Cinfio 9.80. Only one Bronco was below 9.80 on the beam.
Mann gave the Broncos a powerful 1-2 punch by finishing second all-around with a career-best 39.00.
Southern Utah posted team scores of 48.950 on vault, 48.950 on bars, a fantastic 49.300 on beam and 48.675 on the floor. Alyssa Click captured the balance beam title with a 9.925.
Boise State concludes the regular season next week when they host BYU Friday, March 23. The meet gets underway at 7 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena and will be highlighted by "Senior Night".

Boise State Scores 7-1 Win over Utah State
The Bronco hitting attack came alive in the late innings to give Boise State a 7-1 win over Utah State and a doubleheader sweep for the team.
Allie Crump was 3-4 with a homer and three RBI's while Tara Glover, Christina Capobianco and Devon Bridges had two hits apiece. Aubray Zell scattered five hits through seven innings to pick up the complete game victory. Boise State hosts Idaho State Saturday at 4 p.m. at Mountain Cove, weather permitting.

Kristina Capobianco's triple has scored Kelley Caplan, who walked, and Boise State went ahead 2-1. Then, Devon Bridges came through again with an RBI double and Erin Thorpe's team leads 3-1 lead over Utah State.

Devon Bridges hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one apiece. USU is batting in the top of the fourth.

Boise State Defeats Portland State 6-5
They were able to get this one in after all; the report from Boise State was incorrect. And it was worth waiting for, as the two teams battled to the end.
The Lady Broncos had a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh inning. PSU scored one in their half of the inning to tie the game, then Allie Crump homered in Boise State's half to win the game in dramatic fashion.
Boise State advanced its record to 16-10. The Broncos take on Utah State in the nightcap at Mountain Cove Field.
The Lady Broncos had a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh inning. PSU scored one in their half of the inning to tie the game, then Allie Crump homered in Boise State's half to win the game in dramatic fashion.
Boise State advanced its record to 16-10. The Broncos take on Utah State in the nightcap at Mountain Cove Field.
