Felix Gets 2nd in Decathlon 100-Meter Dash at NCAA Championships

This is a very good result for Felix, in not one of his best events.  Kurt ran an 11.16 at the Mountain West Championships, which gave him 825 points.  Felix shocked the field by winning his heat and finishing second overall.  Someone's been training...

Bryant Lemon Donates $1 Million Towards Bronco Stadium Expansion

It's the time that your university needs you, and Bryant Lemon and his family have stepped up with a $1 million donation to the Bronco Football Complex.  The Lemon family asked that the donation be designated for the new recruiting lounge and therefore it will be named the Bryant Lemon Recruiting Lounge. 

Work is underway on the new $22 million football complex, a 68,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that will include coaches' offices, meeting rooms, an academic center weight room, athletic training room, equipment and the locker room for the Boise State team. 

"The Lemon family's generosity in supporting our student-athletes is greatly appreciated," Bronco head football coach Chris Petersen stated.  "It's great when former student-athletes remain involved in our program.  Their willingness to give back is proof they valued their time at Boise State."

Lemon played for former Boise State head football coach Lyle Smith in 1953 and 1954, helping the Broncos to a 17-1-1 record.  Lemon received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the University of Idaho in 1958, and his master's degree in engineering administration from George Washington University in 1961.  He worked on several high-profile projects throughout the country before forming BRYCON Corporation in 1990, one of the largest industrial contractors in the Southwest.  BRYCON has worked on projects such as advanced technology, manufacturing, industrial, cleanroom, healthcare and office build-out.

Bill Lemon, president of BRYCON, noted his father was a great Bronco fan:

"He has watched the growth and development of the program for many years.  It is with great pleasure we are able to support the future advancement of Boise State and its athletic program in my Dad's name."

BRYCON is located in Rio Rancho, N.M., a suburb of Albuquerque. 

Student-Athletes at Boise State Set Academic Record

Student-athletes at Boise State recorded the highest grade-point average on record this past semester, combining for an average of 3.00.


Sixty-five percent of Bronco student-athletes were above 3.0, the highest in a semester.  The women's golf team led the way for Boise State with a combined 3.68 G.P.A. while the women's tennis team has a cumulative GPA of 3.54.  Teams from football, softball, volleyball, women's golf, women's tennis and wrestling all set team GPA records during the spring, either for the spring semester, cumulative, or both.

Nate Potter (football) and Jake Swartz (wrestling) were named Academic All-Americans while Potter, Tyler Shoemaker (football) and Amanda Burnett (swimming and diving) each earned all-district academic honors.

The Bronco football team recorded the second-highest academic score of schools competing in bowl games for the second straight year, according to the Higher Ed Watch's academic report.

Vujovic Signs with Boise State

Vukasin Vujovic has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Boise State, according to head basketball coach Leon Rice.

Bujovic is a 6-9, 220-pound forward from Belgrade, Serbia, who averaged 16 points and 5.8 rebounds a game last year for S Beograd, the junior team of Euroleague member Partizan.

“Vukasin is one of the top power forwards in his age group in Serbia, one of the top basketball playing countries in the world,” Rice said. “We are excited about the impact he will have on our team next season.”

New Banners Being Installed at Bronco Stadium

Banners of four Boise State senior football players are being installed on the east side of Bronco Stadium.  Wide receiver Mitch Burroughs, cornerback Jerrell Gavins, running back D.J. Harper and cornerback Jamar Taylor are featured this year.


Burroughs hopes to be more of a factor this fall, having started seven games last season.  He caught 49 passes for 500 yards and one touhdown and led the Broncos and the Mountain West Conference and was ranked 8th in the nation in punt returns with a 13.3 average.  


Gavins was off to a great start  in the first three games of 2011 with three interceptions and 11 tackles before a season-ending injury.  His absence was a key reason why Boise State did not go undefeated.  


Taylor started nine games and posted 27 tackles and two interceptions, including one he returned a school record 100 yards for a touchdown against Arizona State in the Las Vegas Bowl.  

Boise State's Tara Glover Named Third Team All-America

Boise State center fielder Tara Glover became the first Bronco softball player to earn All-America status, as Tara was named third-team All-America by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Glover let the nation in hits (88) and hits per game (1.63) during the regular season and batted .476 to rank third in the NCAA.  Yeah, makes sense why she's third team and not first team, huh?  In addition, she had 29 multi-hit games, reached base safely in an amazing 52 of 54 games, and set school records for batting average, hits, runs (54), doubles (14), triples (four) and steals (18), while also leading the team in on-base percentage (.510) and slugging percentage (.708).

"Tara was very deserving of this honor," said Boise State Head Coach Erin Thorpe.  "She was the spark plug for our offense all season long and her competitive drive and overall athleticism were invaluable to us in so many ways."

"It's very exciting and definitely a pleasant surprise," Glover said. "I really want to thank all of the coaches at Boise State, my travel ball coaches and high school coaches, too, for helping to get me here. My parents and brothers have also always been there, pushing me and getting me through some of the times I didn't necessarily want to be on a softball field."

Glover was named NFCA All-Pacific Region Second Team and Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year.  Glover broke the all-time conference record for batting average.  Tara's .622 batting average and .638 on-base percentage rank second all-time for conference games.  Glover's 1.067 slugging percentage in conference is third-best in Mountain West Conference history.

 "Tara had one of those seasons where you always knew she was going to come through for the team," Thorpe said. "I am so excited to watch her continue to develop over the next couple of years because I still believe she is coming into her own as a player."

"A lot of credit goes to my teammates for keeping me going," Glover added. "This is a great sign of what we can accomplish as a team and having this on our résumé can keep us working hard and help propel us to even greater things next year."

Kristin Hill is the 2012 Bronco Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Kristin Hill, the 2012 Boise State Coach of the Year.  Kristin received 34.5% of the vote, edging football coach Chris Petersen, who had 32.%.  


Hill led the Bronco swimming & diving team to the Mountain West Conference championship, the first-ever for the school and the third conference title in a row for Hill's team.

This is a new category this year in the 2012 Bronco of the Year sweepstakes, rewarding the amazing contributions that freshman have made this past year to the success of Boise State.  There are five very deserving nominees:

Jessica Bottelberghe, swimming

Jessica was a key reason why Boise State won the Mountain West Conference championship.  She finished 4th in the 200-yard medley relay and 6th in the 100-yard backstroke, 7th in the 200-yard backstroke, 9th in the 200-yard individual medley and helped the Boise State 400-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle medley team win gold medals at the Championship.  Bottelberghe won all four events she entered against Idaho, won both the 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly at Seattle, won the 100-yard backstroke at the Rice Invitational and scored in five individual events at the Missouri Invitational.


Bottelberghe also competes for the Boise State track team, and finished 13th in the 800-meter run at the Mountain West Championships.

Anthony Drmic, men's basketball

Drmic lit it up for Boise State in his first season, averaging 12.0 points a game to lead his team.  The 12 points per game is the third-highest by a freshman in school history and ranked 13th in the Mountain West.  He also laid his claim to the backboards with a team-leading 5.0 rebounds a game, and had 33 steals and five blocks for Leon Rice's Broncos.  Anthony made 57 three-pointers, a freshman record and ranked sixth in the conference.  Drmic started 29 games for Boise State, second-most by a freshman since 1977-78.  Drmic was named Honorable Mention All-Mountain West and MW Freshman of the Year.

Jordan Kreiger, softball

Krieger gave consistency to the third base position for Kristin Hill's Broncos, eventually winning the starting job (29 starts) and helping Boise State finish second in the Mountain West regular season.  Kreiger batted .306 in her freshman season, fourth on the Bronco team, with two home runs and 16 RBI's.  Kreiger scored 16 runs and had five doubles.

Matt Miller, football

Miller set freshman receiving records with 62 catches for 679 yards and nine touchdowns in helping the Bronco football team finish second in the Mountain West.  Miller tied for the team lead in receptions with Tyler Shoemaker.  Matt averaged 4.77 receptions per game, second in the Mountain West, and his 52.23 yards per game ranked sixth in the conference.  Miller had nine catches against TCU.  He was a FWAA Freshman All-American.

Marisa VanderMalle, women's cross country

VanderMalle performed like a seasoned veteran, showing great leadership in finishing 8th at the Mountain West Conference Championships in the 6K race.  VanderMalle completed the distance in 21:20.4 to help the Broncos finish third.
