Four Broncos Qualify for 3-Meter Diving Final

This is not one of Boise State's strongest diving events, but the Broncos need to score points.  You can see that SD State has four qualifiers as well, and they are high up, with three qualifying for the "A" final.  Boise State has just one diver in the "A" group (top eight).

Busy Bronco Times

Blue Through and Through is following a lot of things right now as our Boise State student-athletes compete against the best in the Mountain West and the best in the nation.


There are the Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships and the Indoor Track & Field Championships, both going on simultaneously.  The Bronco softball team has two games today, one Friday and then meets #1 Florida on Saturday.  The Boise State women's tennis team is going against Pepperdine and Arizona State this weekend, the men's team is in action at the annual Blue-Gray facing three SEC teams, the #16 Bronco gymnasts are at Oregon State Friday night and the Boise State wrestling team tests its mettle in the Pac-12 Wrestling Championships hosted by Boise State.


So a lot going on and the posts will be just as fast and furious as the action around us.  Blue Through and Through will do our best to keep you informed with up-to-the-minute results from across the nation as it happens.

Felix Wins Heptathlon Long Jump

Kurt Felix is 2/7 of the way to a title in the heptathlon.  Felix is charging through the competition with two wins in two events.  Felix won the long jump portion, after also finishing first in the 60-meter dash earlier this afternoon in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the 2012 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships.


Felix jumped 24-9 to score 945 points in the event and leads so far with 1,813 points.  Boise State's Anthony Belcher jumped 20' 1" and currently ranks seventh after two events:

Boucher, North Lead 50-Yard Freestyle Qualifying

Seniors Amber Boucher and Stephanie North, two women who have propelled the Boise State swimming program from infancy into being a regional power, were 1-2 in qualifying for the 50-yard freestyle finals at the 2012 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.  


Boucher swam the distance in 22.43 seconds, a seasonal best and Mountain West record.  North was right behind her teammate, with a career-best of 22.44.  We can tell from the early races that the Boise State swimmers are indeed going to do well in the lower altitude.  One of the things that is difficult to tell about swimming and track and field, for examples, is how altitude affects performance.  Boise State of course performs most of its meets in higher altitudes than the California schools so even though the Bronco times might be slower, you can't always go on the times.


Stevie Hughey had the sixth-fastest time (23.04) this afternoon in Oklahoma City while junior Shanelle Choi qualified in 24.06.  The top 24 qualify for the finals but only the top 16 places get points.

Five Broncos Qualify in 500-Yard Freestyle

Five Boise State swimmers have qualified in the 500-yard freestyle for the next round:  Jennifer Cahill set a school record (4:50.34, the second-fastest qualifying time), Emily Blasko (with a career-best 4:56.57), Rachel Heaney (4:57.46), Emily Irvin (4:59.98) and Brooke Balough (5:01.63).  Six San Diego State swimmers qualified, including three of the fastest six.


Boise State needs to score well here because San Diego State is projected to get 77 points in this event, a large reason the Aztecs are favored to take the team title.  SD State will dominate with four in the "A" final compared to one for Boise State.

Four Broncos Move On in 200-Yard IM

Sydney Johansen led four Broncos who advanced to the next round in the 200-yard individual medley at the 2012 Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Johansen had the fourth-fastest qualifying time of 2:02.47, more than a second faster than her career best.  Junior Christine Raininger also beat her seasonal best with a qualifying time of 2:02.98 while Jessica Bottleberghe qualified in 2:04.31 and Chelsea Miller made it in 2:05.11.

Boise State Gymnasts Will Get a Chance to See How It's Done

For years, the Boise State gymnastics team has had the state goal of making it to Nationals.  Blue Through and Through has consistently said that for that to happen, the Broncos have to score a minimum of 196 points per meet.  Tomorrow, Boise State will face a team that does that week in and week out, the Oregon State Beavers.  And, by no coincidence, Oregon State is ranked #8 in the nation.  The Top 12 teams (three in each region) meet in the National Championships.


Boise State fell to #16 this week because they fell short of the 196-point total in their home meet against San Jose State.  Technically, what you do in the season doesn't matter except it gets you into the Regional Tournament.  But it is naive to think that national ranking doesn't matter as Boise State found out last year at Regionals.  Despite executing flawless routines, the Broncos fell short against #1 Florida, failing to top the Gators by as fraction of a point.  The simple truth is that the judges are influenced by what they see and hear and it is next to impossible to top the #1 team in the nation, even if you perform better.  Hopefully what Boise State learned is that if they want to get to Nationals, they'd better be ranked in the Top 12 when Regionals take place.

Lady Broncos Face Two Top 25 Teams

The Boise State women's tennis team (5-1 on the season) takes on #30 Pepperdine Friday in Malibu, California.  The match gets underway at 2:30 p.m.  The Broncos will also face #21 Arizona State in Malibu--that match is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m.

Boise State Tennis Team Heads to Blue-Gray Classic

Coach Greg Patton's Boise State tennis team will take on three Top 25 teams this weekend in the annual Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.  Boise State will face #14 Auburn at 9 a.m.  Friday, #15 Mississippi State at 11:30 Saturday morning and Tennessee on Sunday.  

It is a most unusual format this year.  Each SEC team faces a non-SEC team three times and vice versa.  After all matches are played (there are eight teams that were invited), the teams with the two best records will not play a regular match, but a single doubles match to determine the Blue-Gray (champion).

Boise State Softball Plays Two Top 10 Teams This Weekend

For the second straight week, Boise State will play two Top 10 teams.  The Lady Bronco softball team is in Cathedral City, California for the Cathedral City Classic, and will meet Cal State Northridge this afternoon at 4 before meeting Cal State Fullerton tonight.

Tomorrow (Friday), Boise State takes on #6 Oklahoma at 4:30 p.m.  The Broncos tied Oklahoma in 2010 in the fifth inning before losing 8-4.  The Broncos also face Cal Poly at 7 p.m.  Saturday, Boise State meets #1 Florida, the first time the program has gone against a #1 team.  That game is slated for 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Broncos enter the tough weekend 7-3 on the season.

Analysis of First Day at 2012 MWC Swimming & Diving Championships

Here are the projected and actual team scores after the first day of competition at the MWC Swimming & Diving Championships for the three favorites:


1.  Boise State 108 points    (96 projected)  + 12
2.  San Diego State 101  (104 projected)  -3
3.  UNLV 78 points   (75 projected )  +3


Remember that San Diego State is projected to win by 125 points.  So for Boise State to take the team title, the difference from projection for Boise State and San Diego State must be at least 126.  Right now, Boise State has cut into that projection by 15 points with two days left to go.

Boise State Divers Come Up Big

Boise State was projected to score 16 points in the one-meter diving event, which took place today at the 2012 Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Those points were based on the top performances in the conference this season, using the scoring system that the Mountain West uses for its championship meets.


Instad, Ciera Cortney finished third, Amanda Burnett finished sixth, Tana Loan was 12th and Lexi Pfeiffer was 13th.  This gives Boise State a whopping 38 points in the event, 22 over their projected amount in this event.  Boise State scored 10 less in the 200-yard medley relay, but this still puts the Broncos 12 over their projected total after three events.  San Diego State is favored to take the title by 125 points, meaning effectively that Boise State is 113 points behind at this juncture.

Boise State Wins Freestyle Relay

As expected, Boise State won the 800-yard freestyle relay with Amber Boucher, Emily Irvin, Jennifer Cahill and Stephanie North combining for the win.  The Broncos swam eight seconds faster (7:13.40) than their best time coming in.  


Boise State leads after the first day of competition with 108 points to 101 for favored San Diego State.  I will have a comparison of projected points to actual results shortly.  Right now, Boise State is ahead of schedule but not by enough to overtake San Diego State.  But there's plenty more action to come and chances for Boise State to make up the ground.  New Mexico is third with 99 points, UNLV is sitting in fourth with 78, Wyoming has 76, Colorado State has 64, TCU is in 7th with 55 points and Air Force has 46.

Mountain West Swimming & Diving Championship Scores

After two events, here are the team scores:

This is not a big surprise.  New Mexico was expected to score well in diving and they have.  Boise State was hurt by its fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, scoring 30 points instead of 40, but they were helped when their divers scored 39 points when they were projected to get 21.  So overall, the Broncos are ahead of pace, but right now it's not enough to overcome the favored San Diego State team.

Cortney Third in One-Meter Diving Final

Official results are not posted yet, but the information I get is that Ciera Cortney of Boise State has finished second in the one-meter diving finals, won by Gabby Erickson of New Mexico.  Amanda Burnett of Boise State was sixth.

Boise State Medley Relay Team Finishes Fourth

Boise State's title hopes took a huge hit as the Bronco 200-yard medley relay team finished fourth.  Boise State was hoping to finish first or second; the Broncos were the top seed in the conference.


The scoring for the event is as follows:

Mountain West Swimming Championships

Only one event has begun today at the MWC Swimming & Diving Championships and that is the one-meter diving preliminaries.  The meet will award points through the first 16 places and if I have the formula correct, the consolation points have already been allocated.  The divers who finished from #9 to #16 competed in the consolation finals earlier today in Albuquerque and here are the best results I can obtain:

Boise State's Amanda Burnett, Ciera Cortney Qualify for 1-Meter Diving Finals

Boise State's Amanda Burnett and Ciera Cortney both qualified for tomorrow's finals in the one-meter diving competition at the 2012 Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma today.


Burnett is second with a score of 268.55.  Gabby Erickson of New Mexico leads after the preliminary round with 301.45 points.  Anna Steiner of San Diego State is third (266.25) while Cortney is fourth with a score of 258.20.  

Bronco Roundball Teams Go After UNLV

Desperately needing wins for better seeds in the upcoming Mountain West Basketball Tournament, the Boise State men's and women's teams take on UNLV tonight.  The Lady Broncos host the Rebels at 7 p.m. tonight in Taco Bell Arena, while the men travel to Las Vegas for a battle with the nationally-ranked UNLV team tonight at 8:15.

Boise State Wrestlers Seeded Third in Pac-12 Championships

(note:  these are not the official seedings for the tournament...they are the rankings by Wrestling Report...)


Boise State will host the 2012 Pac-12 Conference Wrestling Championships Sunday in Taco Bell Arena.  The Broncos, most definitely in a rebuilding year, are seeded third behind Oregon State and Arizona State.


Session One begins Sunday morning at 11, Session Two begins at 4 p.m. with the Championship Finals getting underay at 5:30.  The team awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m.  


All-Session tickets are $30 with children, students and senior citizens admitted for $20.  Individual sessions are $20 with children, students and seniors admitted for $15. 

George Ivanov (157 pounds) and Jake Swartz (184 pounds) are ranked #1 in the conference by Wrestling Report.  Michael Cuthbertson is seeded second at165 pounds for the Broncos but realistically, the Broncos don't have enough other strong contenders to take the team championship.

Boise State Women Projected to Finish Sixth at MWC Indoor Track Championships

TCU, UNLV and New Mexico are the favorites to compete for the Mountain West Indoor Women's Track Championship, which gets underway this week in Albuquerque, New Mexico.


TCU is projected to finish with 128 points to 98 for New Mexico and 96 for UNLV.  San Diego State is fourth with 77.5 points followed by Colorado State (69.5), Boise State (62.5), Air Force (53.5) and Wyoming (37).


New Mexico is projected to score 30 points in the mile alone.  TCU's main strength is in the sprints, but they are consistent up and down the lineup.  UNLV should do well in most of the track events.


Boise State's Alexi Morton, who scored 3,565 points in the BSU Team Challenge two weeks ago, is the pre-meet favorite in the pentathlon.  

Boise State, Air Force Men to Battle for MWC Indoor Track Title

Air Force and Boise State are the favorites to take the title this week at the 2012 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  


In projected scoring applied to the top conference seeds in each event, Air Force has 149 points followed closely by Boise State with 141.5.  It appears to be a two-team race unless one or both falter.  New Mexico has a projected 106.5 points, followed by TCU with 92.5, Colorado State with 84 and Wyoming with 70.5  


TCU is strongest in the sprints, while Air Force has a solid team overall, boosted by its pole vaulters who are projected to score 28 points.  Boise State too is pretty solid overall.  


Kurt Felix is the favorite in the heptathlon with 5,771 points scored at the BSU Team Challenge.  Felix is the only one in the field who has qualified for the upcoming NCAA National Championships in Nampa, Idaho.  Felix also has the top conference long jump at 25-feet, 1.75-inches and the high jump (7' 0.25").  Trevor Kraychir is the top seed in the weight throw (66' 10.75") but he'll have to be at his best to defeat Wyoming's Joe Plant, who has a seasonal best of 66-1.  Manoah Wesson (48.11) is the conference favorite in the 400 meters.


To win the conference title, the Broncos may need to score well in the mile.  Boise State has five milers within four seconds of scoring points (Drew O'donoghue-McDonald, Jeff Howard, Scott Foley, Sawyer Bosch and Vince Hamilton).  

What Boise State Needs to Do to Win MWC Swimming Title

When you're looking at making up points, the easiest way to do that is to see what the favorite does best and try to cut into that margin.


As mentioned in a previous article, San Diego State is the pre-meet favorite heading into this week's Mountain West Conference Championships, which get underway Wednesday in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  San Diego State excels in the freestyle distances, namely the 500-yard, the 1,000 and the 1,650.  The Aztec women are projected to score a whopping 77 in the 500, 67 in the 1,000 and 59 in the 1,650.  That's 203 points out of their projected 852.  If the Broncos can cut into some of that strength and increase their own point totals in those three events, the team scoring will be much closer than the projected 125-point difference for San Diego State.


Seniors Amber Boucher and Stephanie North must come through in their respective events and lead their relay teams to titles.  Boise State is favored in three of the five relays and they are seeded second in the other two.  Anything less than that will make it tough for the Broncos to capture the hardware.


Jenn Cahill is the only Bronco in the top 16 in the 1,000-yard freestyle event, seeded 14th.  Cahill must get some friends with her to score points.  Instead of three points, the Broncos probably need a minimum of 10 here, and preferable ahead of some SDSU swimmers.  In the 1,650, freshmen Megan Myers and Emily Blasko are slated to get nine points between them.  Since San Diego State is projected to get 59, the two frosh must do better.  To win the team title, Myers and Blasko probably need a minimum of 15 points between them.


Freshman Jessica Bottelberghe is another key.  In the 500 freestyle, she is seeded 11th, with three San Diego State swimmers within range.  In the 200-yard individual medley, Jessica is seeded fifth, and needs to beat at least one of the SDSU swimmers (who are seeded first and third).  Bottelberghe is the fourth seed in the 200-yard backstroke and can pick up valuable points there with a breakthrough performance.  She is within a second of the top seed and would gain more for her team if she can top Leona Jennings of the Aztecs, the #2 seed.  Bottelberghe is seeded ninth in the 100 butterfly, with two San Diego State swimmers directly in front of her.  She can pick up more points for Boise State here.


Christine Raininger is another key swimmer for the Broncos, seeded 10th in the 200 butterfly.  She is 1.5 seconds out of seventh place.  That's three more points for Boise State.  Raininger is seeded a close second in the 400 individual medley behind San Diego State's Melanie Garibaldi.  Head-to-head performance is the easiest way to make up the team point difference and in this event alone, Raininger can pick up six points for Boise State if she can win the IM.  Raininger is also within a second of scoring six points in the 100-yard breaststroke.


It's going to take more than this to wrest the title away from the Aztecs, as the events outlined above only account for an additional 52 points.  The Broncos would still be 73 points behind in second place.  Sidney Johansen in the 50-yard freestyle is 2/10th's of a second away from scoring four points.  Freshmen have amazing capacity for improvement, especially later in the year.  Blasko is within a second of scoring three points in the 200-yard free.  Myers, Blasko and sophomore Brooke Balogh are all within four seconds of scoring four points in the 500-free.  If two of the trio can knock two seeded San Diego State swimmers out of the point total, it would be a huge benefit to Boise State.  


Nikki Cannon is with 3/10th's of a second in scoring four points in the 100 backstroke.  Freshman Emily Campbell is within two seconds of scoring points in the 200 breaststroke.  Sophomore Chelsea Miller is within a second of scoring five points in the 200-yard individual medley.  


With Boucher and North both swimming for Boise State in the 200 freestyle relay, Boise State has to win that event.  They are 23/100th's of a point away from top seed UNLV, which would give Boise State six more points over projection.  They are just 31/100th's of a point away from the Rebels in the 400 medley relay, a chance to pick up six additional points.  


Then we have the diving events.  Burnett has shown she has the form to win, as evidenced by her top seed in the platform event.  Burnett & Ciera Cortney are projected to score 16 in the one-meter event and are certainly within range to score another five over projection.


That's a lot of ifs, but championship athletes come through in championship events.  Boise State experienced the joy the last two years in winning the WAC title.  In the tougher Mountain West, it's going to take that same great effort.

Bronco Swimmers Hope to Bring Home First Mountain West Championship to Boise State

Boise State heads into the 2012 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships with a legitimate chance to bring the school's first MWC trophy back to Boise.

Defending champion San Diego State is the favorite this year but because most of their meets were held at sea level, while Boise State's meets were held at higher altitudes, the Broncos have a shot.  In scoring allocated from the MWC Championship seeds (see separate article), San Diego State has 852 points to 727 for Boise State.  UNLV is third with 619, followed by Wyoming with 386, TCU with 361, Colorado State with 338, New Mexico with 329 and Air Force with 184.

San Diego State is slated to dominate the freestyle distances, with 77 projected points in the 500, 67 in the 1,000 and another 59 in the 1,650-yard free.  For the Lady Broncos to win, they can't allow that domination.  As stated, the vast difference in altitudes will close the gap, and Boise State's depth shows that even in the face of the altitude difference during the season, the Broncos have three of the best times in the five relay events.  Relays are an important indicator of the team title, though not the be-all, end-all.

Still, that depth shown in the relays for Coach Kristin Hill's Boise State team should manifest in better individual performances than what the seedings show.

Seniors Amber Boucher and Stephanie North, the first two Broncos to ever qualify for the NCAA Championships, will want to go out strong.  Boucher is favored in the 100-freestyle (an all-time MWC record) while North is the #1 seed in the 200 with the third-fastest conference time in history.  

Amanda Burnett posted a 257.45 score and has the top seed heading into the championships as well.

San Diego State is led by reigning MWC Swimmer of the Year Kelly Marquenine and Diver of the Year in Kristen Meier.  Meier won both springboard events last year and is ranked in all three diving events.  

The Championships begin Wednesday and go through Saturday in Oklahoma City.

Boise State Gymnasts Drop to #16

Boise State fell short of the 196 point team total required for the elite college gymnastics teams last weekend, and as a result fell from #14 to 16 in this week's new rankings:

Boise State Has Defeated Notre Dame 3-1

Fantastic win for the Boise State softball team, 3-1 over Notre Dame in San Diego.  Christina Capobianco continued her hot hitting with a 3-3 performance at the plate and Aubray Zell allowed just five hits in getting another complete game win.


Kellie Caplan and Capobianco each laced two-out singles in the bottom of the third to get the Broncos going.  Allie Crump then sent a two-out double to left center that plated both runners and Boise State was up 2-0.   The Fighting Irish came back with a solo homer by Alexa Maldonado to cut the lead to 2-1.  It was the first home run allowed by Zell this season.


Tara Glover led off the fifth with her second hit of the game; Glover now has seven multi-hit games in 10 as a Bronco.  Glover advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a ground out.  Capobianco then connected with her third hit of the game and Glover scored to make it 3-1.  


Boise State is off to its best start in school history at 7-3 and will try to continue that streak at the Cathedral City Classic February 23-25 in California.

Christina Capobianco's hit drove in two and then she scored when Mackenzie Whyte doubled, Whyte's second RBI of the game.


Boise State is now batting in their half of the seventh, trying to extend the game.  They have one out.

UPDATE: Boise State Scores

The Broncos have scored a run against Washington and now trail 6-1 after 4 1/2 innings.  Allie Crump and Devon Bridges both walked.  Lindsey Nicholson came in to run for Crump.  Both runners advanced on Holly Bourke's grounder.  Mackenzie Whyte's single plated Nicholson for Boise State's first run against the seventh-ranked Huskies.

UPDATE: Boise State & Washington

The Huskies came up with two more runs in the second and now lead Boise State 5-0.  The Broncos are going to lose touch if they don't get going.

Boise State Falls Behind #7 Washington

For the second straight time, a nationally-ranked team has jumped on Boise State early.  Washington leads Boise State 3-0 in the first.


UCLA scored three runs early and only one run after that in a 4-1 win last night.  

Boise State Shuts Out San Diego 4-0

Boise State rebounded from just their second loss of the season to nationally-ranked UCLA by defeating San Diego 4-0 tonight in San Diego, California.


Aubray Zell was phenomenal in shutting down San Diego.  Zell allowed just two hits in a complete game effort.  She got hitting support from Tara Glover, who was 1-2 with two RBI's, Kellie Caplan (1-3) and Devon Bridges, who was 2-2 with an RBI.  


Boise State is now 6-2 and will play #7 Washington tonight.

UPDATE: Boise State Continues to Lead San Diego

Aubray Zell has turned in another gem thus far, allowing just two hits through six.  She is trying to close the door on San Diego for a Bronco victory.

The Lady Bronco softball team tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead San Diego 4-1 with San Diego now batting in the sixth.  

Boise State's "Cardiac Kids" Pull Out Another Thriller

A foul on Hank Thorns of TCU with two seconds remaining allowed Boise State's Anthony Drmic to go to the free-throw line and the Bronco freshman calmly sank both attempts to give Boise State a 65-64 win this afternoon in Taco Bell Arena in Boise. It was the Broncos' second consecutive heart-stopping victory.

Thorns had put his team up 64-62 with 32 seconds remaining. Drmic followed by sinking one-of-two free throws to draw within one with nine seconds left, then wisely immediately fouled, a move that would put TCU in the bonus on Boise State's next foul.  Drew Wiley then followed with a foul on TCU's in-bounds pass that put Craig Williams on the line with six seconds remaining.

Williams missed the front end of the one-and-one and Drmic was fouled on the rebound, setting the stage for more Bronco heroics. Boise State had defeated Colorado State Wednesday night when Derrick Marks went coast to coast on a runner that gave Boise State a 70-69 victory.

Neither team shot well, with TCU 23-57 (40.4%) and Boise State only slightly better at 42.9% (24-56). But the Horned Frogs found their range from the three-point line, connecting on 12-of-25 shots for a blistering 48% that kept Boise State from pulling away down the stretch.

TCU jumped out to a 15-6 lead early, but Coach Leon Rice's team battled back and only trailed 28-26 at the half. The teams traded baskets for the opening nine minutes, until Thomas Bropleh's trey gave Boise State a 42-39 lead. Boise State grabbed their biggest lead at 50-44 with 7:56 left on another Bropleh three, assisted by Jeff Elorriaga, and led 59-54 after Marks' jumper with 3:17 left.

But Garlon Green came back on the next possession for one of his three three-pointers and Thorns tied the game at 59 with 2:05 left. Williams connected on a three for TCU, but Wiley answered that with a trey of his own to once again tie the game at 62 with 1:02 left, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

Marks led Boise State with 13 points, while Kenny Buckner had 12 points and Drmic 10.

Williams had an excellent game for TCU, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Boise State travels to Las Vegas, Nevada to challenge #13 UNLV after taking the Rebels to the wire last month in Boise.

Broncos Win Another Thriller

A TCU foul on Hank Thorns with two seconds left allowed Anthony Drmic two free-throw opportunities.  The Boise State freshman calmly sank both, leading the Broncos to their second consecutive last-second win, 65-64!

Boise State can't stop the three-point shot and TCU moves to 59-57 with 2:44 remaining and then ties it one possession later.  Marks has 13 points now to lead the Broncos.

Boise State has kept TCU at bay for several minutes, although it has been a back-and-forth affair.  With 3:44 left, Boise State leads 57-54.


Derrick Marks has taken charge in the last few minutes after being held scoreless in the first half.

but Boise State has missed opportunities the last two trips down the court that could have extended their lead.  A little over 8 minutes left.  Kenny Buckner leads the Broncos with 12 points.

Bropleh's Three-Pointer Puts Boise State Up

A trey from Thomas Bropleh has given Boise State a 42-41 lead over TCU with 10:31 left in the game.

TCU Leads Boise State Early

Well, if TCU can sweep the Broncos along with their win over Boise State in football, I guess they deserve the Big 12 bid.  They lead Boise State 15-6 early, much better than either UNLV or San Diego State did against the Broncos.  Thought that maybe Boise State's young players had figured it out after their win against Colorado State.

TCU Holds Off Boise State 73-69

Boise State made a spirited rally in the final minute, rallying from 11 down, but TCU held on for the win 73-69.


The Lady Broncos fell to an even .500 with the loss (13-13) while seeing their Mountain West mark fall to 4-7.  TCU is also 13-13 overall but 6-5 in the MWC.
