Computer Composite, Week 5
I am now including both Colley and Massey in the Computer Composite. Since only four are current, I am using all four this week. With the two new additions, the first set of numbers reflects the points for all four active computer ratings. The second set of numbers reflects the two middle computer ratings to approximate the actual BCS formula. This necessitates more calculations but I believe they are necessary this early to get a true reflection of the actual BCS Standings. It doesn't make a huge difference but in cases such as Clemson and Texas, where the ratings are all over the map, it does greatly improve their rating.

Boise State Loses Lead Against TCU, 25-22, 21-25, 25-17, 18-25, 7-15
TCU has gained the upper hand early, 11-8. Boise State has fought back to make it 12-11 TCU. And now Boise State captured the first set. I'm beginning to think this Bronco volleyball team can play with anyone.
Boise State has an early 9-5 lead in the second set. But TCU came back to steal it 25-21.
Boise State has a 19-14 lead in the third set. And the Broncos won 25-17.
Boise State is where they were at against #22 Oklahoma--a 2 set to 1 lead and needing to close it out. Boise State leads fourth set early 5-4. TCU with three straight points to take a 7-5 lead and now leads 13-10. Criticial stretch coming up. And Boise State faltering--now 22-15 and set 25-18 for TCU.
Once again, Boise State had a great opponent down 2 sets to 1 and couldn't put 'em away. Now we go to a fifth set. And 14-1 TCU wins 15-7.

Boise State, BYU Extend Series To 12 Games
Boise State and BYU, which had previously agreed to a four-game series in football beginning next season, have now extended that to 12 years. This gives the Broncos a great regional rival for the next 12 seasons and will help to boost their strength of schedule. Plus, all the people who won't be able to go to the game because the stadium is sold out will start to clammor for stadium expansion.
Nevada Aims To Run All Over Boise State Again
Nevada hopes to not make it a blip, but a trend. The Wolf Pack dominated the line of scrimmage in sending Boise State into the locker room depressed. How did such a thing happen?
It happened because Boise State did not take Nevada seriously. They believed they were on their way to the Rose Bowl or perhaps the National Championship game. Reno was just a stop along the way. The Nevada offensive and defensive lines were better and the Wolf Pack controlled the ball for 22 out of 30 minutes in the second half. When Boise State needed a stop on third down, they couldn't make it. In between plays, the Bronco players were worn out (i.e. hands on hips, short breaths, etc.) A team that prides itself in workouts and conditioning was worn down by the tough Nevada offense.
Meanwhile, the Bronco offense, as high flying as it is, couldn't get a first down. Had they been used to playing 100% for four quarters, they could have put the game away. But they didn't. They couldn't run and they couldn't pass in the second half and the better team won on that day.
Some might say that win was a fluke, especially how it turned out, but if you can't block and you can't tackle, it doesn't matter what a field goal kicker does--the game is won and lost in the trenches and the hogs up front for Nevada had a field day with their opponents from Boise. So that brings us up to the game Saturday afternoon between these two teams.
Boise State is coming off a game where once again, they let their opponent outplay them in the second half. Nevada is coming off a road game in which they led Texas Tech for much of the game before losing a heartbreaker 35-34 on a touchdown with 44 seconds remaining on fourth down play. Bronco fans might have been thinking (or probably more accurately hoping) that with Colin Kaepernick gone, Nevada was going to fall apart. Not so. The performance last week against a very talented Red Raider team blows that theory to smithereens. Redshirt freshman Cody Fajardo came on in the second quarter and threw two touchdowns passes and ran for a 56-yarder for Nevada. He finished with 139 yards on 10 carries. Colin Kaepernick didn't gain that many yards in too many games. Could we see the beginning of another four-year player to cause nightmares and wreak havoc on the Bronco defense?
Combine the new star Fajardo with Boise State's inability to generate anything resembling a consistent running game and you have the makings of another Nevada win. The Broncos could change history with a few good blocks here, a few good blocks there, and a few more textbook tackles all over the place and win the game.
Or they could leave it up to a field goal.

An important early Mountain West matchup for Boise State tonight. The Broncos hosts TCU, who has lost just one match so far this season. First serve at 7 p.m. Thursday night in Bronco Gym!

Vince Hamilton Named Mountain West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Boise State freshman Vince Hamilton led all Mountain West Conference runners at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational last weekend and today, the Mountain West recognized Hamilton as the Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
Hamilton ran the 8-kilometer race in 24:53.0, placng 42nd out of a field of 220.
Nicole Peters of Colorado State was honored as the Women's Athlete of the Week for placing 16th at the women's 5K race at the Griak Invitational.

Note that a new branch of Blue Through and Through has debuted. Due to the tremendous size of the articles, statistics and information, it became necessary to give football its own site. It is named Blue Football Through and Through and you can find all football-related material at:

Boise State Volleyball Team Defeats Weber State 3-0
Home Sweet Home.
The Bronco volleyball team, which played its first 14 matches on the road, defeated Weber State 25-17, 25-22, 25-12 in its home opener at Bronco Gym last night. Amanda Remy entered the Bronco record book with a team-high 17 digs to move into 10th-place all-time in career digs with 1,022. Elizabeth Griffin and Breann Nesselhuf had 10 kills apiece.
"It was nice to play at home finally after a long road swing," said head coach Shawn Garus. "I thought we were a little nervous and tight at first in front of the home crowd, but we played through it and got the win at home. We hit the ball well with Bree (Nesselhuf), Brittany (Reardon) and Liz (Harden) all hitting above .470. It was a nice way to bounce back heading into the weekend against TCU and New Mexico."
Dama Cox paced the Wildcats with eight kills while Bethany Wray had nine.
The Broncos host TCU (14-1, 1-0 in conference) Thursday night at 7 and New Mexico (7-4,0-1) Saturday night at 7 in Bronco Gym.
