Guide to NCAA Men's Heptathlon

Kurt Felix competes today and tomorrow against the best in the nation in College Station, Texas in the Heptathlon.  The multi-event competition tests student-athletes in seven events:  60-meter dash, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Pole Vault and 1,000-meter run.

Felix has taken fourth place in the 60-meter dash.  Those results will be in the post above.

The Marshall Plan

One of the top running backs in the country is Valley Christian's Byron Marshall and according to multiple sources, he has been offered a scholarship by Boise State.

Marshall, a 5-10, 195 speed merchant, has all the instincts of the great ones.  He is adept at reading blocks, can accelerate as if defenders were standing still, yet has great toughness and can break tackles.  Marshall was named California Sophomore of the Year and All-State in 2009, leading his team to the regional semifinals.  He gained 1,100 yards and scored 19 touchdowns as a sophomore.  In a game vs. Sacred Heart Cathedral, Marshall ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass, returned a punt for a touchdown, blocked two kicks and had an interception on defense.  Last fall, Marshall ran for 1,632 yards (9.7 yards per carry) as Valley Christian was second behind legendary De La Salle High School.  Against Serra, Marshall carried 14 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns and ran two punts back for touchdowns.

And keep in mind Valley Christian is a solid team with more than their share of skill players.  Their quarterback and receivers are pretty good as well.  Even with all that talent, Marshall is still putting up amazing numbers.

Marshall is also on the track team and as you can imagine helps them out considerably as well.  He has been timed at 4.38 in the 40 and he runs a 10.67 100-meter dash.  Marshall also recorded a 23-foot, 4-inch long jump and can bench press 300 pounds and squat 510.

Everybody and their dog has offered this amazing talent a scholarship.  Will be interesting to see if he wants to help Boise State win a national championship with a great coach like Chris Petersen or if he decides to go elsewhere.

Fantastic Friday for Boise State Sports

Kurt Felix will compete in the first day of the Heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in College Station, Texas.


Ciera Cortney and Amanda Burnett continue to make history as Boise State's first NCAA Regional Diving qualifiers.  They will participate in the 3-meter diving competition in Minneapolis.


The Boise State women's tennis team is at UNLV for a match beginning at 11 a.m. Mountain Time.


The Bronco softball team plays an 8:15 p.m. game at Santa Clara.


The Bronco men's golf team is at the Bandon Dunes Championship.


The Boise State men's basketball team fights New Mexico State for a shot at the WAC championship game.  Tipoff is at 10 p.m. in Las Vegas and the game will be televised live by ESPN2.

Cortney Finishes 30th in 3-Meter Dive

Ciera Cortney did not reach the 3-meter diving finals today in Minneapolis, coming in #30 in qualifying.  The 1-meter and platform competitions are tomorrow and Saturday.

WAC Men's Basketball Tournament Final--New Mexico State 66, Nevada 60

New Mexico State plays Boise State tomorrow night at 10.  The game will be live on ESPN2.

Top seed and #21 Utah State meets San Jose State in the other semifinal.
